Study sites ¶
Research sites within CCAMM are needed to establish disposition scenarios, carry out process studies using various measurement techniques, and carry out questionnaires to investigate the socio-economic aspects.
Currently, scientists of CCAMM operate at 33 different study sites. Thereof, 32 sites are located in Switzerland. One other site is located at Zugspitze, German Alps.
Process-specific research occurs at sites where the WSL already has abundant data and instruments. Among others, these sites are, for instance, the debris flow test site at Illgraben (Valais), the Vallée de la Sionne (Valais) and the surroundings of Davos (Grison) for snow avalanche studies, or the rock glaciers at Murtèl-Corvatsch or Schafberg to investigate ice-rich sediments.
CCAMM operates on two key study sites: the region of Kandersteg and Davos. The key study sites link the individual aspects of CCAMM and hence, allow to study in detail cascading processes and provide a holistic perspective on the main objectives of CCAMM. The region Kandersteg, and particularly the “Spitze Stei”, is the focus of the two work packages Cascading Processes (WP4) and Early Warning (WP5). The region of Davos is the focus of Task 2.5 (Forisk) and highlights the impact of protection forests on alpine mass movements and related risks.
